Recap: Unlocking Regional Growth at the GMHLA Lunch + Learn
On September 9th, Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association (GMHLA) members gathered at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee for an insightful and highly relevant Lunch + Learn session. Hosted in the stunning Vue North rooftop event space, the afternoon combined valuable networking with actionable strategies for advancing our local lodging industry.
The session focused on a rapidly expanding, industry-led funding model: Tourism Promotion Improvement Districts (TPIDs).

Expert Insights on TPIDs

We were thrilled to welcome Bill Elliott, President & CEO of the Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association (WHLA), as our guest speaker. Drawing on his deep expertise in association governance and government relations, Bill broke down the mechanics and advantages of the TPID model. He highlighted how these districts serve as a vital tool to protect and grow property owners' investments statewide.

For those who couldn't make it, here are the core takeaways from the session:

  • Sustainable, Dedicated Funding: TPIDs offer a way for local lodging properties to generate dedicated funding for regional marketing efforts without relying on general tax funds.

  • Empowering Lodging Owners: The model allows owners to self-assess a dedicated fee, ensuring that the generated capital is controlled by the industry and strategically deployed.

  • Driving Tangible Results: By reinvesting these funds directly into regional tourism promotion, properties can effectively boost Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) and drive up the volume of paid overnight stays.

Thank You to Our Host

A special thank you goes out to our host and valued GMHLA member, the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, for providing a beautiful venue and fantastic service.

Stay tuned for our upcoming GMHLA events as we continue to bring you the resources, insights, and connections you need to thrive in the hospitality industry!
